I think it's just a move to fill the roster... I don't think they consider him a strong contender for the stretch run into the playoffs.

He's the Cal O'Reiley of 2014. He'll be gone when/if players get healthy or Shero makes a deal to bring someone in.

The Bobby Ryan omission is odd to me. A returning player who is going to score goals. But it's a Burke thing...they never make sense.

Interesting that Zenon Konopka is on waivers today. Last year it might be a good pickup, but not sure we need grit or faceoffs on the 4th line. That line is pretty much set with Vitale, Glass and Adams.

In dealing with the whole Pens-Jets rumors, would love to see Kane in a Pens jersey, but it's unrealistic. Personally, if Shero can get a deal together for both Ladd and Wheeler, it would give the Pens a top 6 that would be really tough to play against. Ladd could be that Kunitz type of player for Malkin's wing, and Wheeler could be a 40 goal scorer on Sid's wing. The Pens would then have a top 6 that would not only be tough to play against physically, but would be the most dangerous top 6 in the NHL offensively.

Oshie and Okoposo fill the same role. Oshie plays on one of the best teams in the league in a shutdown role while still providing a good amount of offense. Okposo plays on an underwhelming Islanders team in a sheltered role, and is also producing a good amount of offense.

They went with Oshie, can't really fault them, especially when you throw in the chemistry dynamic with Backes.
